Detailed Pinouts and CAD files for OAK and ACORN
« on: May 28, 2015, 03:52:26 pm »
When available and stabilized having the pin function / location details published would be good.   Including Eagle CAD type part and layout drawings for OAK and ACORN and ideally the OAK 'base shield' for use in designing OAK compatible boards, and perhaps OAK 'Proto' or other shields for building off an OAK.

I'm also waiting for the detailed layout drawings. Can't wait to start designing my own shields.

Seems, Erik does not read here at all, though :(

I'd give him this much credit:Erik does read as it fits his schedule in making critical things work out as best he can.

His schedule these days it probably a bit overwhelming - even if all is going well - which I hope it is.

Since the ACORN is selling stand alone in 10's and 100's - the drawings should be out ASAP - not sure if he's making final layout changes for tuning?  OAK boards outputs are defined to fit the PRO/Original pinout - and until the ACORN pins are fixed his OAK adapter board mapping is changing ...

I'd check again when the Beta boards start arriving.  Erik mentioned something during the kickstarter campaign about having them ready for us when they start shipping.

@Solice- my expectation too - I wrote that on another thread yesterday in response to 'software' posting: http://digistump.com/board/index.php/topic,1791.0.html

Though the ACORN's are built into OAK's for Beta - they should be finalized by then.

I mentioned a few times that this wouldn't be available until Betas ship, but I understand that people want to get started on custom boards so here is some preliminary info (having just sent the Beta boards to the fab) - but please don't count on this not changing.

The Acron module has been reworked to have the same pinout and dimensions as the ESP12 - so it is now a drop in, cloud ready, with more flash replacement (with a pretty different inside design) for those modules. So the dimensions (or close to them) and pinout of say this (http://l0l.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/ESP12pinout.jpg) apply - though not the internal circuit, routing, or anything else.

The Oak itself is about 33mm x 23.5mm and the module overhangs one side a bit - this pin out is still correct EXCEPT for SPI: https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/003/647/889/c08864c752651c147ff9f6f1182be2ae_original.png which is now P7 MOSI, P8 MISO, P9 SCK

And for the record I do read every thread on here, but when I'm pressed for time I tend to not answer threads others have answered or I have answered elsewhere until everything else is caught up.

Thanks Erik.  Posts and details from KS are hard to track or search  - yesterday again I could not 'show older posts' beyond first page - had I seen that I would have let a placeholder without comment.  Of course the OAK has to fit the PRO layout - but I wasn't sure about the ESP aspects, that makes sense.

<edit> I could search today and made a 74 page PDF - page #24 indeed shows: May 22 @Solice - we definitely will release them when they are finalized, which should be soon
> I must have failed to de-reference the 'them' or not seen 'finalized' for what it was and just put 'soon' on my mental checklist - while reading about BobC's PIR sensor issue matching mine.

The JPG was just the pin out diagram on the Kickstarter. Check the main campaign page for it.

The Oak layout does not match the Pro layout - the pins and spacing are different

Attached are the eagle files for making shields - again, in no way finalized.

I mis-compared indeed.  I knew the spacing was off - but assumed the long side with LED_0 was aligned - but now see on Pro Tx/Rx are not on that side.  Not critical to me - but a change to my assumption.

Just posted on KS: AWESOME NEWS re:Erik's >> "sent Betas to the fab house "

Hope they come back in good time and shape ready to run.

Did a quick github search and these EAGLE files came up for ACORN layout i.e. -12 board to check out :  https://github.com/markbeee/ESP8266_breadboard_adapter_ESP_12_7

I haven't gotten the hang of the ESP naming yet at a glance, would be great to see all 16 called out from the ACORN - P7 MOSI, P8 MISO, P9 SCK - as they map to OAK.

Do the Rx/Tx refer to serial - or it seems those are the SPI Rx&Tx?
That EAGLE drawing seems to match - but the board has a few components beyond power?  That is what the OAK does - what is needed to support Acorn?

Just read the 9/26 Kickstarter update - Looks like I have a month to get a board to connect and power the ACORN units.

Erik: Any updates or details that might declare the needed connections (for a non-EE) and details to get 'boards' to power up as a custom OAK simulator when integrating the RAW ACORN into other project would be much appreciated. For instance capacitors on power pins and needed lines for reset or such things that need to be considered - the things you built into the OAK motherboard.

Just saw this "Recommended pcb land pattern" published for the photon: https://docs.particle.io/datasheets/photon-datasheet/#recommended-pcb-land-pattern-photon-without-headers-

Includes link to an Eagle library - it seems ACORN will need similar details verified and published to specs as released.

Will you be publishing the Eagle files for ACORN in a similar fashion?
