Oak TFT Shield electrical problems?
« on: April 01, 2017, 08:55:09 am »
Hello all,

I soldered up the TFT shield this morning, and my one working Oak won't boot with it attached. I also tried it without screen attached, and the Oak won't even power on. A little testing with the meter reveals that there seems to be no resistance between the VIN and GND pin on the 3-pin center header of the shield -- even with the soldered header removed and confirmed no solder bridges. It looks like a short in the board, unless somebody knows different?

When the shield is attached to the Oak, I don't even get the power LED of the Oak, so it looks like this shield is shorting the power line. Has anybody else experienced something like this?

Thanks!

Monte

When you say no resistance... do you mean a dead short between VIN and GND? Because if that is the case, something is most definitely wrong. Double check the other set of VIN and GND pins aren't shorted together, because as far as I can tell from looking at my shield, that is the only place that connection goes. If there isn't a solder bridge there, there is most definitely something wrong with your shield.

Hi Peter,

Ya, it's a dead short. I checked under magnification, and there are no solder bridges. Erik replaced the board for me.

Thank you for the double-check!
