Not sure if this is the right forum or not.

I was interested if anyone knows if anyone is selling an enclosure/box/case for an Oak with the Digistump TFT LCD Shield with an opening for a power jack? Perhaps with a wall-mount option (not required)?

I'd like buy a ready-to-use case/box/enclosure for a project that only needs access to the touchscreen and power. I don't have the means or time to try to design a 3D case and get it printed myself.

Please let me know if you know of any places or have any suggestions.

Right forum ;)

I haven't seen anything yet... I suspect the Oak is a little too new for anything good like that to show up... so I suspect I'll need to go the 3D print route myself once I get this 3D printer of mine to calm down and behave itself... If you see a design on thingiverse or elsewhere, you can use a print service like Shapeways to get it printed and posted to you... did that a year or so ago myself to get a custom top for a RC transmitter module.

Please post a picture of your Oak and TFT LCD, there are a few ways to mount them together.

To drive @briankb 's point about ways to mount the TFT, I intentionally did not mount the TFT board to the shield as you can see in the attached photo. My thinking was it was a bit restrictive and forced a certain form factor. With the TFT board off the shield I should be able to fashion an enclosure from an appropriately sized project box. Haven't done it yet but will be looking to do so in the near future.

@samej71, have you also considered exposing the SD card slot?

My TFT display will eventually become a bulletin board of sorts, grabbing various feeds and reporting to the screen at regular intervals. Right now it's getting my Thinkspeak weather channel info from another Oak through the cloud. Would be nice to have it sitting in a nice enclosure.

@exeng I have a 3D mockup of the oak and working on the LCD now. Once I have those I can make case or mounts.

What case/mount would be useful for you?

I haven't given it much thought except that I know I want the TFT and the Oak/Shield to be separated in the enclosure. I thought if I were making one from a project box, I would cutout a rectangle that would expose the TFT but then wondered how to provide access the SD card slot. Wouldn't need the access if the enclosure was easy to open to insert or remove the SD card. The Oak/Shield would be placed somewhere in the box and most likely expose the USB and/or a power connector. Right now I'm using 3 and 6 pin jumper wires to make up the connection between the shield and the TFT board. Would rather have a 9 pin ribbon cable. Don't base your design on my needs. I tend to let things simmer as I try things until the idea is fully baked.

Still, I would love to see what you come up with.

The Oak LCD shield just makes this hole setup a little wonky to setup in a case. Ideally if it is just the Oak + LCD/SD Controller I would try to avoid using the shield and wire it up directly for a final assembly (not prototype).

Here is a screenshot of the three components setup as they are with headers.

sorry I got a little busy. will work on this again today or tomorrow and print a prototype that would work for wall mounting, will require running a ribbon or individual wires.
