new Digispark Pro fails to upload
« on: March 16, 2015, 04:33:07 pm »
So I finally got around to using my Digispark Pro. Soldered on the headers, installed the DigistumpArduine 1.5.8C IDE, selected the Digispark Pro board, loaded the Start example. Tried to upload, plugged in when prompted, and got a device timeout from the IDE. Windows reports "One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned".

I have tried all the USB ports on my desktop, as well as a powered hub, with the same results.

I have tried using my laptop, all USB ports, same issue of timing out. No "device malfunctioned" message from Windows - none at all - but USBView reports "DeviceFailedEnumeration: Unknown device". It gives no identifying information. Under Device Manager, it shows as "Unknown Device" under Universal Serial Bus controllers, not under Human Interface Devices. I could not update the driver to work with the device.

I used install-filter-win.exe to look for vid:16c0 pid:05df USB Human Interface Device, but this did not show. Maybe because the Digispark Pro has a different identifier or because it is not being recognized for some reason?

Running the "Install 64bit drivers" produces a message that shows all drivers ready to use.

I have to wonder if I have a malfunctioning unit? or did I overlook something?

thanks in advance for the help,

Paul

nb both systems use Windows 7, 64-bit

I primarily use Win7x4 and generally it worked - though there may have been issues at times on other threads - usually when wasn't being a good USB citizen from the sketch or something.

Did you power and test your pro to work before soldering?  Did it connect and did you change the Blink program then?   Are you seeing a blink now even though USB won't connect?

Did you push 'reset' button at this point when the IDE was in the 60 second upload window?

Maybe go into the DigiSpark area and right click 'run as admin' on the driver install file to make sure it completes properly.  Then try again and push Reset after 20 and 40 seconds into the Upload period.  The first time Windows will want to ID the bootloader USB interface and that may take longer than allowed, so repeat at least once.

Did you only get a single Pro or do you have a second one to try?

Other common issues are bad USB cables, using or not using a hub.  You've tried multiple machines so probably mixed in USB 2 versus USB 3 which can sometime make a difference.
