Pro-Wifi shield help
« on: November 20, 2014, 01:21:45 pm »
Hi,
I got my wifi-shield its a little different then in the kickstarter pictures I used all the pieces the kit came with and I guess im just confused on how i can plug anything else to it.

Looking back there was mention of "stackable" headers but this kit didnt come with any just the male headers. Should I just go out and buy some stackable headers myself? Did I assemble it wrong? Or are all the pins used up to support the wifi-chip?

I attached some pictures if it helps Thanks!

Yes, the secret is in the stackable headers.

And, while you've found a perfectly workable solution, the pins typically come out the bottom of the shield when assembled. It doesn't matter in this case but you may encounter shields with components that are too tall for the Digispark to be over the top. Here's an example of the nRF shield using stackable headers.

Is there a wiki for this yet?  I'd love to get my assembled but I'm not 100% sure where every goes (and in what orientation).

Awesome, glad I didn't try to do that on my own.

Is there a working wifi library?  I tried loading some of the arduino examples it says I'm missing IPAddress.h.

Careful. I followed this tutorial only to notice that it is not practical to use on the robotkit because the Wing shield can not be plugged on top of it in this configuration.

Sounds like more female stackable headers would be needed to extend the build?  Long pin female headers can receive on one end and plug out the other facing up or down with planning for what you want to do.

These are lightweight pins, but cheap and numerous - 50 each for $15 but only 6 and 8 pins big so you need to cut and adapt them to get 9.

They had 9 pin female stackable headers during the Digispark Pro kickstarter campaign (I believe it was a pair of headers for $1.50).  Right now, most of the new items added for the kickstarter campaign have not yet shown up at the retail store.  Presumably some day all of these will be available.
