Windows 8.1 driver issues (I've already searched)
« on: February 19, 2014, 09:12:15 pm »
Hello,

I'm excited to try out my DigiX but am getting pretty frustrated with the state of the drivers. I have Arduino IDE 1.5.5-r2 installed. I've attempted to install the official DigiX drivers (DigiXAddons-v08) multiple times with no success. Each time it fails almost immediately with a generic Windows message "Install Failed", which is annoyingly unhelpful. http://i.imgur.com/aFAW6bT.png

For some reason, my Windows 8.1 Recovery settings screen does not have an option for "Advanced Startup" like this screenshot. http://revryl.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Driver5.png  Very weird. I have the other 2 (Refresh and Remove), but not Adv Startup, so I can't turn off the driver signature check there. Mine looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/x7M1t0m.png  I've tried using the "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider" tool found at http://www.ngohq.com/?page=dseo with no success. Typically I'm good for one sketch before the board reconnects to my laptop as an unrecognized device, which leaves me unable to interact with it until an erase/reboot. Doing an erase/reboot after every upload just isn't going to work.

I've ordered another USB cable in case that's the problem--right now I'm using the one that came with my PS4. But I would think that if it connects as a Bossa board and accepts a sketch, the cable is probably not the problem. I probably just need to get these drivers installed and hopefully my woes will go away.

When can we expect a fix for this issue? Some sort of officially signed drivers, perhaps?

Thanks.

I'm a little embarrassed--I didn't realize there were multiple methods to get to Advanced Startup. I ended up doing "shutdown -r -o -t 5", was able to disable the check, install the drivers after the big scary warning, and just now I uploaded multiple sketches in a row. Further, the device is now recognized as a DigiX, not a generic board or something with the yellow "no drivers" icon.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Of all the searching and testing I've done, I didn't search for an alternative method of getting to advanced startup. This is a huge relief. I'm going to be learning how to do some basic things with it and then gifting it to someone (with my knowledge to help out) in about a month, and I was starting to get a little worried that this was not going to go so well. Hopefully the driver install on a Mac is easier.

Thanks again.
