Cant compile for tiny85 - "ctags pattern is missing"

I'm bit lost here: feel free to redirect me to other info channels - but for now I have no idea on where search for help.

I have the Arduino IDE installed on my OpenSUSE 42.3 and it works with no problem - I can compile for - and program - all my original Arduino UNO boards with no problems.

I have now aquired some Attiny85 boards and try to follow the directions on http://digistump.com/wiki/digispark/tutorials/connecting. When I hit upload I get:

ctags pattern is missing

Error compiling for board Digispark (Default - 16.5mhz).

I  have cranked compiler warnings up to All but it makes no difference.

After a IDE run, the result from last compile is a empty file. (/tmp/arduino_build_241720/preproc/ctags_target_for_gcc_minus_e.cpp)
But if I repeat the last compile line by hand - directly in bash prompt, the compile completes with no error, and the generated file is 4540 bytes.

Any ideas?
