Oak wifi config failing to connect to OAK
« on: January 19, 2016, 01:00:00 am »
Hello,

Following the just released tutorial to program my OAK board using Arduino IDE, the first step already fail...
Here is the tutorial: http://digistump.com/wiki/oak/tutorials/arduino

And the first step is to connect the board using the softAP and this website:
http://cdn.rawgit.com/digistump/OakSoftAP/master/config.html
I can connect to the board and http://192.168.0.1/device-id deliver the board ID as expected and http://192.168.0.1/ just print the message "Soft AP Setup". So I am definitively connected to the Oak SoftAP.

But the setup still fails and give me the following error:

I've already tried several time without success.

Has anyone succeeded? I'm using a Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Google Chrome and I'm connected to the internet via wifi (so I loose the connection when connected to the OAK).
Or does someone have any idea how to debug this problem?

I've just tried with my phone connected in USB Tethering, so the absence of internet connection is not the issue here.

Hi touliloup,

Like you, I'm very interested in getting the Oak up and running as soon as possible. Unfortunately it seems that the firmware for the Oak is not online yet. The issues you are encountering can be worked around. For more information, please see the following:

So I modified config.html to run. What I did was the following:

[...]

With the changes above the Oak connects to your wifi, and presumably tries to download firmware that is not uploaded yet. Trying to claim your device in Particle will fail, as the Oak will never contact Particle without downloading the firmware first.

With the new released Soft AP I don't have problem any-more to list wifi access-point (just the limitation of 10 AP, but that's ok).

I'll now wait till the first firmware is live  :)

Re: Oak 0.9.3? wifi config failing to connect OAK to Particle.io

Fixed:
TL:DR - Try using Chrome on an Android Phone, worked for me. You're likely on Oak version 0.9.3. Once updated to 0.9.4 I no longer had this issue.

I was also failing to add Oak to my Particle.io account via http://rawgit.com/digistump/OakSoftAP/master/config.html. I kept getting an error message stating "Unable to connect or save setting to your Oak". I was on Mac OS X 10.11.3 El Capitan in a Chrome Version 48.0.2564.109 (64-bit) browser. I tried again on a Samsung Note 5 running Android 5.1.1 and Chrome 48.0.2564.95 and it finally moved onto a wifi ssid selection screen. This only showed the first 10 ssid's detected so I had to configure mine manually. Then it automatically updated my Oak to the newest firmware 0.9.4 so I am "assuming" I was on 0.9.3. Subsequent wifi reconfigs have been working on my Mac in a Chrome browser with the Oak on 0.9.4. Once updated to 0.9.4 I no longer had this issue. Replicated issue and solution on 2nd Oak. The problem also existed on a 2nd Mac machine running Chrome and it appears to successfully reconfigure wifi APs after the Oak updated to 0.9.4.
