One thing that has helped me is to program the Digispark through a USB hub (preferably powered, but unpowered has worked too.) Give that a try and let us know what happens.

Digispark (Original) Support / Digipark Attiny85 just won't work : /

So I've literally never programmed a thing in my life, so ahead of time I apologize if these kinds of questions just sound super stupid / basic or if there's a simple solution I just can't figure out from lack of experience.

To summarize, I bought this board to try and follow a DIY volume knob tutorial I want for my PC build ( https://www.instructables.com/id/Digispark-Volume-Control/ ). I really don't think it's difficult for me to manage, but I've been stuck at basically step 0.5 on this operation for the past few hours. I've probably ready and watched six different video and forum tutorials (even read through some of here trying to google troubleshoot, none were specifically applicable) but nothing I've tried has gotten my computer to recognize it period. I can plug it in and the little LED light turns on, but the little "ding" that tells you Windows noticed a device was plugged into a port doesn't happen, and nothing pops up in the device manager, even briefly. I've installed the drivers, set Arduino up with the proper board manager and programmer (at least for the one recommended - I've seen a few videos showing a specific Digispark programmer but I can't find a link for that anywhere or any indication of how you get it otherwise. I've figured out the actual program itself, so if I can get this thing to connect I'm confident I can go from there.

TL;DR my main questions are:
  • Windows doesn't recognize the board, despite drivers being installed and Arduino settings being configured. What else can I try?
  • Is the issue possibly related to how the pins are placed? I've tried connecting it with both sets of pins, one set of pins, one upsides and the other right side up, etc etc, and it doesn't make a difference. Does that matter at all to getting it to be recognized, or should I just leave them to the side for now?
  • Is there a magical tutorial I haven't found for this sort of issue?

Here's a list of the tutorials / troubleshoot guides I've tried:
https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Setup-DigiSprak-Attiny85-Board/
https://digistump.com/wiki/digispark/tutorials/connecting

https://digistump.com/board/index.php?topic=2825.0

It's possible I just happened to buy a defunct board, but if there's anything else I can try before I end up buying another one, I'm open to suggestions.

Digispark Projects / Re: digispark analog input

Take a look at the schematic (https://s3.amazonaws.com/digistump-resources/files/97a1bb28_DigisparkSchematic.pdf;) the analog input pins (ADC) are connected to PB2, PB3 and PB4. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of pins, ADC2 (PB4) and ADC3 (PB3) are used for the USB communications. Any external circuitry connected to those pins MAY interfere with the USB, and may need to be removed to reprogram the Digispark.

To connect a pot to the Digispark, connect the two ends of the pot to +V and ground, and the wiper to ADC1 (PB2.)

I have the problem that by directly connecting a potentiometer to the digispark the light flashes without any variation. What pins of the digispark can a potentiometer be used?  :-\

Digispark (Original) Support / [HELP ME] Digispark not uploading
« Last post by Axolotl101 on December 20, 2019, 12:45:30 pm »
So, I bought a digispark attiny85 and it worked for awhile. I made a script and got an error saying something like "Script failed compiling", but was still able to upload it. I did it and now my digispark doesn't want to be programmed. Just the green light is turned on. Before, the red light would blink for 5 seconds while waiting to be programmed.
Did I brick it?
Is there any way to fix it?
P.S. Yes, I am desperate.

Digispark (Original) Support / Re: "Unknown Device"

I have the same problem. When this device is connected to USB I too get the "open" and "close" sound constantly.
This part gives me some hope: it seems like you may be having an issue with your Digispark connection to the computer.
Recently, I was going through some old posts, looking for an answer to another issue. It seems that some times the USB does not connect very well. From your description, this may be the issue here.
Digistump suggests trying using a hub (I tried a cheapie hub given at a trade show, which worked for my issue.) I also remember back in the beginning of USB, some people had troubles with just using the PCB traces as fingers in the USB connection (like the Digispark has.) They did not make good connections to the USB socket. First, try using a hub, if that does not work, try using a pencil eraser to buff the exposed PCB traces on the Digispark USB connector to clean off the oxidation. Finally, if that also does not work, try to add a thick layer of solder (1/4 mm or so) to the traces, to thicken the connection a bit. Be careful to not use too much heat, or you may lift the traces off the board. Also, you need to scrub the rosin off with a stiff bristle brush (like a tooth brush) and plenty of alcohol.
Try that, and let us know what happens.

I have spent two weeks and countless hours trying different ways to load the drivers. No help. I have gone to just about everyone for help and none so far. Someone out there must know the fix, I hope. I am using Win10-64.

Digispark (Original) Support / Change name of mouse?
« Last post by KenF on December 04, 2019, 01:39:46 pm »
I'm using the digimouse library to emulate a mouse.  everything works but the device shows up as a mouse with the name DigiKey.  How to I change the the name to something I else.  I'd like to use my own name for the device.

Thanks, Ken

Digispark (Original) Support / Is there any USB host shield for Digispark ?
« Last post by hrtk on December 01, 2019, 02:42:20 pm »
Hi
I'd like to connect a keyboard to my digispark for input, is there any USB host shield available in the market I can use ?
Further, how would I go about creating a USB host shield for Digispark. I'm really new at this, little help would go a long way.

Thanks.
