Title: Latest Oak announcement and future of RootCloud?
Post by: bubba198 on July 04, 2015, 09:59:55 pm
Hi everyone,

I recently saw the Kickstarter status update and announcement about Oak being moved to Particle's cloud and wonder where that leaves RootCloud?

Will Oak be released with viable user-owned and controlled back-end and web IDE? The only reason for backing Oak was the promise of RootCloud and web IDE so honestly this announcement was a bit troubling.

Thanks

There has been a self-hosted version of the Particle Cloud Server for about a year already. From what I recall, that does not include the browser-based cloud IDE, but there is a stand-alone local IDE based on Atom, and also a local build toolchain. So we should be able to do everything locally, without being forced to use cloud services.

Unfortunately the particle cloud local is kinda of falling behind.  It currently doesn't even support the Photon yet and hasn't been updated in 2 months.
