Is there any way I could connect a arduino gsm or a gprs shield to a digix... The arduino official site says that the shield is only supported on an arduino UNO?

The problem is, that you need to look at the voltage level of the communication. The DUE needs for COM-pins (I2C, Serial, SPI) 3.3V and is (unfortunately) not 5V safe for incoming voltage like some other 3.3V boards are.
There are many boards out there, you could probably use. The Raspberry Pi has similar conditions for example.
Search for GPRS/GSM module/modem/shield and you will find trillions. Usually this modules need Power source, which can be 5V, whioch is no problem, as the DigiX sources that. Its even better to source power consuming shields from 5V, as the 5V converter is more powerful than the 3.3V converter. http://digistump.com/board/index.php/topic,1432.0.html
The only thing, you have to check, is: Which voltage is used for the IO pins and if that can be configured. The alternative way is, give the Level shifter a try: http://digistump.com/products/51
