Could Digispark be used with USB Dongle

Could this be used with a USB Dongle for a sketch to connect to the internet?

The dongles are inexpensive This one is $20: TP-LINK TL-WN722N Network adapter - Hi-Speed USB

Would an adapter be required?

Researching this a bit further, I gather the Dongles require a computer that can run much of the software (the protocol is implemented in the driver) So you can get a driver for a computer like a PC, Mac or a Raspberry Pi (which is Linux based), but not for an Arduino. One might be able to build a WiFi shield with an embedded Arduino processor, but it would be difficult to manage the protocols and do other stuff.

You\'re right. USB has a strictly host-device design, and digispark only knows how to be a device, so plugging other usb devices in to it wont get you anywhere in the forseeable future. You can get some need wifi and ethernet adaptors for arduino though, and many of those would also work with the digispark. The easiest (and maybe even cheapest?) option will be to combine the digispark with a raspberry pi - they can take usb wifi dongles, as well as ethernet cables, and can handle all the protocols while using the digispark for IO via your own software or something like firmata
