Hello all,

I searched the forum, but seems like nobody is having this problem.
I have been getting this error msg in Arduino IDE for some time now:

Error downloading http://digistump.com/package_digistump_index.json

Digistump boards have disappeared from the board list and and "Digistump AVR Boards" is gone from boards manager/contributed.

I have tried deleting and re-writing the URL line from Files/Preferences/Additional Boards Manager ULSs
I have tried adding the redirected URL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/digistump/arduino-boards-index/master/package_digistump_index.json
Both resulted with the "Error downloading..." msg.

Both URL's open fine in my browser, so I know the json file is there...

What's going on ??

Well, all of the 110 people who read this message seem to have no problems with this board definition link.
It must be unique to me then.

Yes, I have had no troubles with that download, but then again, I have not needed to download it for a while. This is a problem that most people who already have the Digispark working will not be able to see.

I tried searching for the file on my system, but it is not there; apparently it is only needed during the install, and not kept. I was going to suggest that you download it and try to put it into the correct place.

I found a site where they talk about manually installing a new board - https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=393434.0. Maybe you could figure it out from there.

Is there a chance you're running SNORT or some other IDS on your perimeter?

I've run into problems like this with other boards - turned out my IDS was blocking them. Adjusted some of the lists and poof - it's all god again.

Not that I know of. But you are right, it seems something is blocking my access to this particular file. Intriguing...

Hello, I've had the same problem I think it's caused by changes to the Arduino IDE. I downloaded the old Arduino 1.6.9 as a zip file, extracted the folder and ran it. It will read your existing preferences file and you can install the Digistump AVR boards. Delete the 1.6.9 folder and run your current version of Arduino, which will have the Digistump AVR boards.

The problem I have now is that it has installed the bootloader when the Digispark is plugged-in but it hasn't assigned a COM port.
