Safe mode - jumper or resistor?

At least https://digistump.com/wiki/oak/tutorials/troubleshooting says that to enable safe mode I should use a jumper from P1 to GND.

But is that really safe? Since Oak will be trying to power on the LED at P1, won't jumper cause overcurrent for P1?

So should I really use resistor instead of a jumper?

A resistor would probably be better, as the I/O is indeed been driven for a second, and then low again as the P1 led blinks, but for the few seconds you actually need to have the jumper on, and the fact it is toggling on and off rather than always on, it doesn't seem to have been a problem yet.
