New to Oak (First Update Headache)
« on: November 18, 2016, 05:21:59 pm »
Could someone help me? I just bought 5 of these things, thinking that it would be a breeze to use....not

Have tried to use both the inet and the locally hosted tool to get the update. Neither works.

It looks like the firmware is retrieved by das blinken lights on the oak, but upon completing, it just sits and does 3 rapid blinks, pause, repeat. I can continue to connect to the ACORN network, and reattempt to add the wifi credentials (nothing I try here works, from WEP to WPA and both with pass or no pass). Rather than potentially BRICKing 3 more of these things, could someone possibly even shed light on the meaning of the status light message?

Usually the 3 rapid blinks means that you have successfully configured the Oak and it's ready for uploads.

Do you have a Particle.io account?
Did you use SoftAp to configure the Oak? It would have asked for your Particle login.
Is the Oak claimed on Particle?

If so, you will need to run the Oak CLI tool (oak.exe) to select the Oak you want to upload to. Then try the Arduino IDE again. If that fails, please share the message that is returned.

Exeng,

Thanks for your comment! For whatever reason, I could not get the oaks to use my WPA network. Once I set up a wifi share off my iMac with no password, they were able to connect and be seen in the particle.io interface.

No to try and get things working under Arduino. Settled in with some "Bleak Expectations" and forging ahead.

Much appreciated!
