One out of my three Digisparks is too wide
« on: January 26, 2013, 04:00:55 am »
Hi all,

Just got my Digisparks and have found that the USB connector on one them is too wide. I've filed it a little so it'll go in, but it's still a tight fit.

It seemed to have the blink sketch preloaded. Is this normal?

Both are normal in my experience. I had to take some sand paper to the corners of the USB connectors to get them to fit, but I would still call that within acceptable tolerance. This is a device for makers, and makers are the types who can use a file. :D Also, I'd prefer it this way because I would rather avoid paying the added cost of machining the boards to even closer specs.

All 3 of mine were to wide also.
I had fun putting a file to the Digispark.
In fact, I filed all of my shields as well.

As you all have found - we expect that some people might have to file them down.

We found huge variations in the width of usb ports - we want them to be tight because that helps them stay in place without a conventional plug, so we tried to pick a width somewhere in the middle that would work for as many as possible.

As duckythescientist said well - this is certainly a device for makers, and we made sure there were no traces on the USB connector edges, so file away without fear of breaking them!
