Physically ID device
« on: September 05, 2016, 06:43:09 pm »
Hello all,

Any advice / ideas on how to easily and semi-permanently ID an Oak? How have you been ID'ing your multiple Oaks?

Thank you.

You mean as in labeling them so you can tell them apart? I was really creative... I called them Oak 1, Oak 2, Oak... well, you get the drift. Then, all I did was use a label printer, and print out '1', '2', '3' ... and stuck that on the underside. That was the extent of my creativity! :-P Wait till you see how I named the different Raspberry Pi's :-D

:-) I figured the labels would come off too easily. Suppose it's better than a sharpie on the board.

I've got one of those thermal label printers... the type that print on self-ashesive ribbon... and they seem to stuck on pretty well... the circuit board with the smooth finish is good for that.

Yeah, I thought the same... I didn't want to adulterate my Oak too much with a sharpie number on the can ;)

If you have access to many nail varnish colours, a small dot somewhere might be enough.... then they could be called:
Red
Pink
Blue
Purple
Green
Silver etc

Most of mine are called Oak 1, Oak 2, Oak 3 etc, but I have one controlling the 5m of RGBW neopixels down each side of the beam though our lounge ceiling.... I figured that one should be called "Oak Beam" ;)  (although the wood is actually pine, it have stained a dark shade!)
