Active Oak no longer showing on dashboard log
« on: July 04, 2016, 10:48:58 am »
Hello,

I purchased 20 Oaks and was able to connect to and configure 19 of them last March (had to use local server and change my routers channel, one of them never worked). I have had four of them in service since then and they have performed pretty reliably. Recently one of them stopped publishing events to the Particle Dashboard log. This particular Oak reports some data then goes to sleep for ten minutes then wakes and reports again. I see that it does still wake up every ten minutes (the light blinks briefly) and it shows up on the Particle device list with the correct last connection time.

I thought maybe it would help to upload my code to it again, but when I open the Oak CLI It says "No devices available." The other three Oaks continue to appear on the dashboard log, but I can't fix this one nor upload code to any new ones. I tried resetting it and went through the claiming procedure again, but still no luck.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you,
John

Hi John,

brohan, weaslyd and I are all experiencing the same problem. See here, here and here for more info. I'm pretty confident it's a bug in the Particle Cloud, that seems to be Oak specific.

Please post about your issue over on the Particle forums (either in one of our threads - see the links above - or create your own). The more people they see affected by this issue, the more likely they are to do something about it.

Not sure if it is related, but I had issues with OAK cli saying I had none online, having not programmed any Oaks for a few months.

I fixed it by deleting the OAK cli settings file. (can't remember its filename or location right now, but hopefully someone will know and be able to advise).

I then had to enter my Particle account credentials again the next time I used it, but it all worked correctly from then onwards and allowed me to upload a new sketch to my Oak of choice in the list.

Hope this helps.

ps  If you got the other 19 working, but one refused, that is probably broken. Erik will replace it if you flick him an email and tell him the troubleshooting steps you took.

Thank you for the responses.

Ken - I will check out these other posts and chime in on them. I tried to search for problems similar to mine before I posted, but must not have used the right terms because I didn't find these.

Mike - I deleted my AppData\Roaming\oak\config.json file and ran the cli utility again. It prompted me to login, but then worked properly again. It did change my access token, I hope that doesn't affect anything.

Once I was able to run the cli again I could flash my oaks that were showing up on the Particle Dashboard, but not the misbehaving one. It gives me "Error : An error occurred while flashing the device:"

Yeah. I seem to remember that was my experience too. I wonder if something particle did changed the token required? Certainly deleting that file worked for me.

FWIW, me oak will show connected in CLI, and on Particle dash, just no events being published as it was before. On the Oakterm, shows offline but updates to last_header are current.

I posted on the Particle forums under Troubleshooting, received an email today asking for my device ID.

My misbehaving Oak started working again today. I don't know what happened to make it work, I just rebooted it as I have done regularly since the problem began and it started publishing again. I'm happy it's working, hope it continues, and wonder what the problem was. Has anyone else had theirs start working again?

Yes, as I mentioned on the Particle forums thread, events from my Oak have started appearing again too. I've been away on vacation for the past two weeks, so I can't pinpoint the exact time it happened, but when I powered on my Oak this evening, events started coming through right away.

The same thing happened when I first had this problem in April. The events just suddenly started working again with no change on my part.
