None of my computers recognize the digispark.

Hello,

I've finally received my digispark today. I set up the environment that was available for download on the digistump website. On my macbook, the digispark was not detected. I tried it out from a windows virtual machine on that macbook too, and that did not work.

I also tried it on two of my windows desktops (physical machines) and no go there. I have all the appropriate drivers, etc. When I compile, it asks me to "plug in the device" but when I do, it doesn't get detected.

I know the board is receiving power because the led lights up, but that's about as far as I can see. The board gets a little warm after I leave it plugged into the usb port, but I don't know if that's normal. So basically, I've tried it on two windows desktops, one windows virtual machine, and a macbook. I've also run through the troubleshooting list available on the wiki, and none of that helped.

Is it safe to assume my board is borked? Is there something else I can try?

Getting warm after being plugged in is normal.


Have you tried the read ports on the desktops and/or a hub?


When you leave it plugged in does a second LED begin to blink?

Hi,

I tried it out on another desktop and it worked perfectly there. I think the issue might be what others suggested - the short contacts. I will purchase an extension cable to try out with the computers where it didn't work before.

I had a problem like this also--Windows had trouble with the fact that the digispark only showed up as a USB device for five seconds.  Try running windows's "add hardware wizard" (run > "hdwwiz") and manually selecting digistump > digispark bootloader.  That's what worked for me, even though I'd already run the device driver installer.  It might help.

Not having a 'real' USB plug caused some problems for me, too. I'm using a USB extension cable and Sparky sits a little loose in it. I found I had to slide it back a forth a little to make sure that all the pads aligned right. I probably didn't need to reinstall the driver twice trying to get it to work. Now I know to nudge it around until the IDE tells me its talking to it.
