LCD Kit White Squares but no text

Hi, I believe I have successfully wired-up the LCD.

After uploading the sketch I was expecting to tweak the contrast and read the text... I have waited much longer that 5 seconds, but just a top row of white squares...

Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

the black wire on the LCD cable matches ground on both sides?

other code - such as the \"start\" example works?

Hi, Yes the black wire is to ground on both sides and the start example blinks happily!

I figured it out, I didn\'t read the wiki carefully enough... I have a model B board.
