I've been informed that it is an error in the board index file provided by boneskull - the checksum type is missing from one of the tools[1]. For anyone else trying to install this package, until it is released (or something else breaks!), this version works - https://github.com/aalku/digistump-board-index/raw/master/package_digistump_index.json
