two versions of the beta-shield ?
(1/1)
gogol:
When watching the thread about the beta-shields, I realized, that there are two version out there:
Just here the two first pictures from the thread: http://digistump.com/board/index.php/topic,1457.0.html
Mine looks similar to the lower picture, it is blck and not purple, the 10uF capacitor is closer to the center of the board. I have not seen other differences yet.
What is the reason for that?
MichaelMeissner:
I would have to imagine that the picture in the KS update posting was a debug version of the shield, and they made some refinements before making the final batch of shields. Given the first one is purple, I suspect it came from OSH park, which is a quick turn around pcb maker that you can order smaller lots (multiples of 3). The final version was probably made by the people who normally make the pcb's for digistump, and presumably make shields in much higher volume/lower cost per pcb.

That makes sense!

Yep exactly - the PCBs for the batch we sent out come from Bay Area Circuits - our prefered PCB house. The prototype boards shown on Kickstarter all came from oshpark.com - our prefered source when prototyping. The changes were all cosmetic, except moving the capacitor which was done to prevent it from interfering with the 3 pin header if using stackable headers.
