Windows 8.1 - How to tell if driver was actually installed
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:41:44 pm »
I tried the drive installer without disabling unsigned drivers and it appeared to install OK. The installation wizard said the driver was installed and ready to use. However, I'm not getting any indication that the digispark was detected when I plug it in. Nothing shows up in device manager. Could this mean that the install didn't actually work and the driver didn't get installed? I've installed/uninstalled a couple of times with the same results.

You won't normally see it in the device manager because it is only present for a few seconds after plugging it in. You will know that the drivers are working if you can program it successfully. To test use the sketch called "Start" under the Examples..Digispark_Examples menu.

Thanks. That explains the lack of indication when I plug in the board. The driver install didn't give any warnings/errors but I still can't program the board so something went wrong somewhere. Likely between the keyboard and chair...

IF you open device manager before plugging it in and then watch that window when you plug it in does it flash/reload right after it is plugged in.

If not - have you tried other ports/wiggling it in the port - and if none of that works email us support at digistump dot com - you might have a faulty one.

Got it working! The USB cable I was using doesn't play well with the digispark but will work for a thumb drive. Which is why I didn't suspect the cable.
