Sleep power measurements
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:19:09 pm »
Hi
Just found the DigiX and it looks very interesting, I'm looking at a solar powered/battery product/project – as the WiFi module is presented as having an Rx at 5mA and shutdown to 2uA.
I wonder if there has been thought given to battery powering? And if anyone has done power measurements when SAM3X is in deep sleep?

Looking at the cct the regulator IC4 Onsemi NCP1117ST33T3G-3V3 has an Iq 6-10ma. So in the normal powered case its going to take 6-10mA, and the Green ON led is going to take another 10mA.

http://digistump.com/board/index.php/topic,1056.0.html  suggests that it could be powered from 3v3 Pin, however looking at IC4 that doesn’t seem workable
Ideally I would like to power from a separate shield (with a LiFePO4 battery ) and shutdown the SAM3X to low current with RTC - my target is less than 100uAs
This would require both the IC4 and AOZ1021 be able to have 0V on the input when their output is powered, which doesn’t seem possible unless I’ve missed something. :)
Thanks for any thoughts if anybody has looked at this.

The Power LED is <5ma

The SAM3X can go low power in deep sleep - but not ultra low like the AVRs - I have not done measurements but the datasheet has a fair amount about it.

You would want to cut the input pin on IC4 - AOZ1021 wouldn't be involved if you did that and powered through the 3.3v pin.
