Digix dead?
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:55:32 pm »
My DigiX had been working fine, then today I decided to play around with the wifi.  While using the wifi, I noticed the signal would drop out randomly, then come back on.  I was getting frustrated, so I stepped away for a while, when I came back, my DigiX will not even power up now.  No LEDS, nothing.

I have been powering the DigiX with either USB, or a 12v wall wart via the onboard connector.  At the time of the failure, no other wires were connected to the DigiX.

Any suggestions?

When you left it was it running on 12v or USB?

What had you done with it previously? and what was the last code to run on it?

Honestly it sounds like a voltage regulator was burnt out/on the fritz - any info on your 12v supply if that is what you were using (where purchased, used successfully before, etc)?

When I left it, it was powered down.  The last code was the web page pin status example from dbell on this forum.

The power supply is a 12volt 500ma.  There is no branding on it, but it is UL listed.  Not sure where I got it from, likely salvaged it from some obsolete electronic device.  I have used it for some time now as a breadboard powersupply, connected to a regulator that steps it down to either 3.3 or 5 volt.

I metered the output before typing this... getting a steady 12.13 volts.

The IC next to the SD card slot, says "TJ 28" on it, is getting very hot very quickly, even with usb power.  I am assuming this is a regulator.
