Bonus Shield - When I Connect it to DigiX, it seems to be a short somewhere

I've made zero mods to the DigiX as for jumping on un-jumping anything.
I've examined a few times my soldering on the Bonus Shield.  Solders look good.  I don't see anything that appears to be a problem, although that is possible, of course.

I also connected it to an Uno, and the same thing happens.

Arduino and DigiX just seem to lose power - as if there's a short.

Is this just a bad soldering job I did somewhere?

I am going to try and test, piece by piece.
I connected DigiX 5v/Gnd and D5-7 to the shield, and the RGB Demo works fine.
Does that tell me that there's no short in the power path on the shield?

Going to try the temp sensor now.  (got weird error about no more addresses, but that's just something I need to work out)

The Encoder example works fine.

It pulls 5v from 5v pin and 3.3v from the IOREF pin - so I'd suspect a short between 3.3v and ground - here is the board layout with the 3.3v line highlighted: http://cl.ly/image/2Y2v093k1L08/ioref.PNG


Ground is a ground pour on the whole board.

In case anyone is wondering - we pull the 3.3v from ioref so that in theory it will work with a 5v board like a recent arduino uno (that has an ioref pin) as it would then power it all at 5v

Yeeah, I got a short.  Ugh.  I think I need a bigger magnifying glass....I still don't see any bridges.  Let me go over it again.

Yep - FIXED IT!!
For the life of me, I could not get rid of the short easily.  The 5v and Ground pins were shorted, but I could not see any solder there at all!
In the end, I had to remove the headers completely and replace them.
Now everything is good!  Thanks for the quick pointer!

@RicM - was it the main power header (the IOREF,RST,3v3,5v,GND,GND,VIN one) - I'm thinking the board house's copper pour or soldermask was a bit off and so while it isn't shorting, it makes it very easy to short when soldering...

Yes.  It was between 5v and Gnd.
When I was trying to fix the short by removing solder (which I couldn't even see), I ended up scratching the green and there is copper right there.  So I can see how it would be super easy.  Let me see if I can take a picture and post what I'm talking about.

Ricm, Try gouging all the way around 5v, I had a short between 5v and ground on top there on mine, I now have a white gouge all he way around 5v (I also had another short around the resistors but that was most likely my soldering skills)

I didn't gouge it out completely, but you can see that I did dig it out a bit.  And now mine is working fine.  Sounds like a general problem.  Thanks for replying!
